Sat 24 July: Local to Niagara Falls

Today was our scheduled sightseeing day at Niagara Falls. Well, it just had to be done. We started with a visit to Port Power Sports, who, in spite of a busy Saturday schedule, fixed Jean’s mirror at no charge. They’re lovely people, and have a great range of Yamaha and Victory bikes as well as ATVs etc.

On our way out of Port Colborne we crossed the St Lawrence Seaway, where we waited whilst a bulk carrier entered the lock:

And here’s Jean, looking cheerful because her bike’s fixed:

We took the local roads to within a few miles of Niagara Falls, then followed the rest of the tourists. You’ve seen a thousand pictures of it already, but just to prove we were there, here’s the Canadian side:

and looking through the mist across to the US side:

We didn’t do all of the tourist attractions, I’m afraid, but rode back again through the orchards to Port Colborne to take it easy for the afternoon. It was a wise decision. You can see from the sky over Niagara that the thunderstorms were building. They finally arrived this afternoon. I’m glad we weren’t riding through them!

Tomorrow we move on to the scenic route on the south side of Lake Erie, and the final few days of our tour.
